The NBA All-Star Game 2025 brought with it a format change that sought to elevate the intensity and interest of the event. Instead of the traditional single game, a four-team mini-tournament was held with 40-point games. In the final, Team Shaq dominated Team Chuck by a score of 41-25, thanks in large part to the performance of Stephen Curry, who took home the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in his homecoming at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
Team Shaq Sets Conditions From The Start
From the start of the game, the Shaq team took control. Curry, the local star, opened the scoring with a three-pointer and quickly added another from half court, igniting the crowd. His shooting set the tone for the game, and with the support of Jayson Tatum, who finished as the leading scorer with 15 points, they built an early 11-0 lead.
The Chuck team, composed of several international stars such as Victor Wembanyama, struggled to find rhythm. They started with a negative streak of 0 for 10 from the field and 0 for 6 in three-pointers, which left them in a complicated situation. Although Wembanyama tried to lead the reaction with 11 points, the initial difference proved too much to overcome.
Curry Takes Over the Show
The 2025 All-Star Game was special for Curry, not only because it represented his eleventh selection to the event, but also because he did it in front of his fans in San Francisco. In addition to his effectiveness in long-range shooting, the Warriors point guard took advantage of a timeout to express his gratitude for playing at home, highlighting how blessed he felt to live that moment.
The crowd responded by chanting "MVP! MVP!" as he received the Kobe Bryant trophy as the game's MVP. The recognition capped an intense weekend for Curry, who has had an outstanding season and continues to prove his impact on the league despite nearing his 37th birthday.
A New Format With More Dynamism
The NBA implemented the mini-tournament in response to criticism of the lack of intensity in previous editions. At the 2024 event, the final score was an exaggerated 211-186, prompting the league to try a model with shorter, more competition-focused games.
While the spectacle did not disappear, there was more emphasis on defense at various times, with highlights such as early blocks and more effort in transition. Although the level of intensity did not reach that of a playoff game, the combination of entertainment and competition left a better impression compared to past editions.

Without Lebron And With Several Absences
The Shaq team had to face the final without LeBron James, who was ruled out due to foot and ankle discomfort. Without a replacement in the roster, they played with only seven players, although this did not impede their dominance. On the other hand, Team Kenny also suffered the loss of Anthony Edwards, which affected their performance in the semifinal.
Despite the absences, the first edition of the mini-tournament left some good moments and showed a possible evolution of the format for the coming years. The NBA will seek to continue fine-tuning the system with the goal of offering a show that combines star talent with greater competitiveness.
The next All-Star Game will be held at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, in February 2026. With the success of the first mini-tournament, the expectation will be even greater for the next edition, where Curry and other stars could once again shine in an event that continues to evolve.
