Poland Beats Malta With Swiderski In The Spotlight And Little Time For Lewandowski

|

The Polish national team fulfilled its favoritism and defeated Malta 2-0 in the second matchday of Group G. The team coached by Michal Probierz resolved the match without great difficulties, with Karol Swiderski as the great figure by scoring both goals. Robert Lewandowski, the team's captain and main man, only played the last 24 minutes, coming off the bench when the score was already settled.

A First Half Controlled By Poland

From the start of the match, Poland took control of the ball and established their dominance on the field. Malta, aware of the difference in quality between the two teams, opted to wait in their own half and close the spaces for their opponents, trying to prevent the Poles from finding comfort in the final third.

The visitors' defensive plan held for several minutes, but Poland's insistence paid off. In the 27th minute, Karol Swiderski broke the deadlock with a goal that showed his instinct in the box. After a good team play, the striker received a precise pass and scored with forcefulness to make it 1-0.

With the lead on the scoreboard, Poland continued to control the tempo of the match. Jakub Moder and Sebastian Szymanski were key in midfield, distributing the play and preventing any attempt by Malta to react. The home team went to the break with the peace of mind of having found the goal and without having had any problems in defense.

Swiderski Settles The Match At The Beginning Of The Complement

The second half started with the same tone. Poland maintained control and barely five minutes later, Swiderski appeared again to extend the lead. The Polish striker took advantage of a loose ball in the area and, with a precise shot, left the Maltese goalkeeper with no options. With his brace, he became the star of the match and the team's main offensive reference in the absence of Lewandowski.

With 2-0 on the scoreboard, the match lost intensity. Malta tried to push forward a bit, but the Polish defense responded with solvency and did not allow the opponent to come dangerously close. At the same time, Poland slowed down and began to manage their energy, knowing that victory was practically assured.

In this context, Michal Probierz decided to make some changes to rotate his team. The great expectation was on the entry of Robert Lewandowski, who started the match on the bench and finally entered the field in the 66th minute. The Barcelona striker replaced Krzysztof Piatek, although his presence did not change too much the development of the match.

Lewandowski Gets Minutes Without Major Incidents

Lewandowski's entrance was more symbolic than decisive in the game. With Poland in control of the match and Malta unable to react, the striker hardly played a part in the minutes he was on the field. His presence was useful to gain experience ahead of his next commitments, both with the national team and with Barcelona, who are expecting him for the next league match.

Although the Polish captain had no clear-cut scoring chances, his simple entrance onto the field generated a standing ovation at the PGE Narodowy stadium. Polish fans always look forward to seeing their top star in action, although on this occasion it was not necessary for him to play a starring role.

The final stretch of the match passed without too much excitement. Poland managed the advantage calmly and Malta, aware of their limitations, did not risk too much in search of an advantage. In the end, the 2-0 scoreline was a fair reflection of what was seen on the pitch and confirmed the good form of the Poles at the start of qualifying.

A Steady Step in World Cup Qualification

With this victory, Poland has six points from two matches and is at the top of Group G. Michal Probierz's side have shown solidity in their opening matches and, although there is still a long way to go, their start to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers is promising.

For its part, Malta is still without points and occupies the last position in the group. The Maltese team will have to react soon if they want to stay in the competition, although the difference in level with their rivals makes their path difficult.

For Poland, this victory comes at a key moment, as it allows the team to consolidate its position without relying exclusively on Lewandowski. With Swiderski at a high level and a balanced squad, the Poles have made it clear that they have enough tools to compete solidly in this qualifying phase.
