The Detroit Tigers had a dream night on Monday when they defeated the Boston Red Sox 14-2 in a game they dominated from the first inning. With Gleyber Torres on fire at bat, the Detroit team showed why it is today one of the most solid teams in the American League. The stadium witnessed a relentless offense, solid pitching and a collective energy that left the visitors without an answer.
Torres was key from the start. He hit a two-run home run in his first at-bat and later added another RBI, establishing himself as one of the stars of the game. But he was not the only one: Trey Sweeney also knocked it out of the park, and Kerry Carpenter contributed speed and offensive presence with three runs scored in only three innings.
An Unrelenting Offensive
From the first pitch, the Tigers came out determined to impose conditions. Gleyber Torres set the tone with a two-run homer that ignited the fans and gave signs of what was to come. In that first inning, the aggressiveness with which Detroit would approach the game was already evident: they did not wait for the opponent's mistake, they went after the game with firm and timely hits.
The most devastating attack came in the third inning, where Detroit's bats exploded with nine runs. Riley Greene was an important part of that offense with a two-run single that beat the right fielder and rolled to the fence, allowing the runners to advance safely. Then, Trey Sweeney capped it off with a three-run home run that put the score out of reach for Boston.
In all, eleven runs in the first three innings reflect Detroit's absolute control of the game. It was an offensive festival where every batter seemed to find his moment and the lineup responded from top to bottom. The pace was so high that they forced the Red Sox to change pitchers before the end of the third inning.
Gleyber Torres Leads With Power And Confidence
Gleyber Torres is having a great moment, and on Monday he proved it with authority. His home run in the first inning was a psychological blow to Boston, and he continued to contribute with his bat to finish the night with three RBIs. Beyond the numbers, his presence on the field was vital in keeping the team's spirits up and generating constant danger.
Since arriving in Detroit, Torres has adapted well to his new role in the lineup. His ability to connect long hits and produce at important moments has given the team a key player who knows how to respond under pressure. And in this game he made it clear once again.
The Venezuelan not only shined with the bat. He also showed solidity in the infield, collaborating in a key defensive play in the third inning when Boston threatened with bases loaded. There, Wilyer Abreu's ground ball ended up in his glove, and he calmly completed the out to extinguish the threat. It was a great night for him and an example of what he can contribute on both sides of the game.
Jobe Responds at El Montículo Despite Pressure
While the offense did its job, young Jackson Jobe also responded from the mound. Although he had some complicated moments, he was able to get through and managed to keep the opposing offense at bay for almost six innings. He allowed only one run, struck out seven and, although he gave out five tickets, he showed personality and control in critical moments.
One of those moments came in the third inning, when he filled the bases after giving up two consecutive base on balls. With the pressure on, Jobe faced Kristian Campbell and Wilyer Abreu, who hit the ball hard. However, the defense responded: Carpenter caught a tricky line drive to right field and Torres settled the ensuing ground ball. That play kept the lead comfortable and gave Jobe confidence to keep going.
With this win, Jobe improves his record to 3-0 and continues to consolidate himself as one of the Tigers' promising pitching staff. His performance shows that he has the necessary mettle to face difficult situations, something essential for a starter in this league.

A Difficult Night for Boston
While Detroit celebrated, the Red Sox experienced one of their worst nights of the season. Tanner Houck was pulled from the game in the third inning after allowing eleven clean runs, a number he had already suffered in another start this year. This makes him the first Boston pitcher to allow 11 runs twice in the same season, an unenviable statistic that reflects the bad moment he is going through.
Although Wilyer Abreu and Abraham Toro hit solo home runs later in the game, that was not enough to make up for the loss. The defense was not solid and the bullpen had to carry a game that was practically lost from the start.
The pressure now falls on Brayan Bello, who will be Boston's starter for the second game of the series on Tuesday. With a solid 2.01 ERA and 2-0 record, the hope of slowing down these on-fire Tigers rests on his arm.
Detroit, on the other hand, has not yet confirmed its pitcher, but arrives with motivation at a high level and a fired-up offense that wants to continue to be a talking point.
